Custom Storage System

Commissioning a Custom Storage System to be built must take into account what kind of materials they will be holding. Size and wall thickness, shape, flow direction, equipment needed and lots of other issues are all dependent on what the use will be. Every silo is customised to its future use.

Storage hoppers are hugely useful in the materials handling and storing business. Not only farms use silos for holding corn and other harvested products, but companies around the world use them for storing chemicals, other liquids, and solids as they await transfer by train to an awaiting ship to head overseas, or truck to be delivered locally. Plastics, minerals, many types of food, and any type of pellet material, powder, granular or liquid substance can be stored and processed in the right type of silo.

The silo and hopper industry make individual stand-alone and group silos with walkways and platforms, doors and ladders as per need of the customer. Any set-up or combination silo system needed can be designed and made custom order. Galvanised steel, cement, aluminium and stainless steel are some materials silos can be made of, and they are usually chain driven.

Blending and bulking of the contents can take place inside resulting in an even mix being released through the exit. Evening distributed moisture content is also important to the correct movement of the material stored. Full skirts, leg or lug supports, or other structural supports are necessary. Other options are available, as are being field constructed, shop welded or bolted. Where the silo is built affects the overall cost and timeframe.

Vertical storage silos are able to contain huge amounts of liquids, being extremely heavy. Elevated silos are used for loading rail cars and trucks which pull up beneath the silo, pick up their load, and drive off. Sizes can be as large as 25,000m3.
